Noel Leeming Sausage Sizzle

Daniel got the leadership team in the boardroom so we could have a meeting about something. he started to explain about how Noel Leeming had a sausage sizzle fundraiser and wanted us to run it for them. They would provide everything and we would get all the profit.

They were going to be sold for $1.00 each, all we needed to bring was tongs and aprons. We made a document to add a time table on so that we could do shifts. They were from 10-12, 12-2 and 2-4. Some people couldn't do it so they continued with their work.

I was free all day and didn't mind how long I had to do it so they put me on for 10-2 which was long hours but I was really excited and they needed me to. Grace was going to stay at Mea and Nelle's house on Friday as it was on the Saturday.

Mea asked Daniel if I could stay too because I was going in the morning with him and he said yes. On Saturday morning (after close to no sleep) we went down to Westgate at 9:30 so that we could set up everything.

We got some Starbucks as it was just across the road and then we went across to Noel Leeming. We got a table so we could set up the money, sausages, sauce e.t.c. We then started putting up posters and cooking the onions and sausages.

We then just had to wait for some customers to come. We only had a couple of people coming as most of them had only just had their breakfast. Mum soon arrived with the rest of the family. I took my brothers to look at the animals in Animates and they got a sausage.

Dad and the boys then went home to get mums sunglasses and mum went and brought some gloves and hand sanitiser for us to use so everything was nice and clean, she also brought a plastic container that we could put the onions in and they could keep warm.

We got a few more customers and the lady that helped us at Noel Leeming was making cupcakes for everyone so we had lots of those too. Mum then asked for some cardboard and a vivid so we could have someone by the road waving the sign every were.

Mum wrote on the sign and got Mea by the road yelling out "$1 sausages at Noel Leeming". After Mea was out there we got a whole lot more customers than we did before and people coming to look at the sales in the store.

Mea and I also started going down the bottom end of the shops handing out flyers and vouchers and we got lots of people coming up to were we were. T.K arrived and Mea had to leave for dance as she had a private lesson.

The staff at Noel Leeming then came out and gave us 7 MKR cook books to hand out. We decided to give them away to people who brought 4 or more sausages. They were gone very fast as many families came and got some.

When we were finished Poppy and Grace came and took over for the 2-4 block. We were very happy with the amount of sausages we sold and couldn't wait to do another fundraiser.

Dear ___________,

RE: Gold Coast Application

I am writing to apply for the Gold Coast trip 2016

I consider myself as a good leader and think this trip will help me lots with the following things:

  • Experiences
  • Money/ budgeting
  • Travel experience
  • Leadership
  • Student Bonding
  • Fundraising
  • Expanding my learning

I think this trip is a good opportunity for me to get some experience before I go to high school. I also think that dealing with money will help me understand lots more and will expand with what I have learnt from running the cafe over the past year or so. I haven't travelled that much before so I think that this will help me understand more about the whole experience and how to act in a new and exciting environment. This seems a lot like a leadership camp which would be good for my leadership goals of becoming better at leading new things and doing something good for communities.

I think that going overseas for a while will be a good time to bond with other students and get to know them better and in a different place and environment than at school. This trip will help me learn how to fundraise and work with customers, it will also help me organise things that I want to happen and this can also help my with money and budgeting also. This trip will also help me expand my learning by helping people I don't know and doing something for them.

Why I should go/ my qualities:

I love exploring new places and are open to new ideas/ change, I also like to try new things especially when I have others doing it with me. I would really like to meet some other students/people that grew up in a different environment and place than I did. I like to share my experiences with other people and doing team building games as I find new experiences exciting and they really inspire me to find out more about them and how things work. I have been to Sydney once before and that was a really great experience for me as I learn’t lots and  we went to theme parks and learnt lots about animals such as Koalas and Kangaroos.

My Reference:

I have worked with Kayla in 2015 and 2016 in both Dance classes and for the HPSS 2015 stage challenge. I have found that Kayla is always keen to learn and take on new challenge and works well when collaborating with a team. Kayla always shows up on time and is well organised and ready to learn. I would not hesitate to recommend Kayla for the Gold Coast trip.

Kind regards,
                     Sophie

I have known Kayla now for two years through my work at Hobsonville Point Primary School. Kayla is extremely conscientious in all that she does, and can always be relied on to do the right thing in any situation. This is continually role-modelled for students around her, and she is quick to help others to follow her example. Kayla is also a very reliable and helpful student – she will always step up in various situations and offer help in any form it is needed, and will finish any task that is assigned to her. She is developing great self-confidence in herself and her abilities, and easily steps out of her comfort zone when required. Alongside this, she is growing her leadership skills and her ability to collaborate with others. Sheis a confident and articulate student who is able to fully contribute her own ideas and views in any discussion. Kayla is developing into a delightful young adult – she has a great sense of fun and enjoys life.

Thank you for considering my application, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Spins W.2

Today we had our second day of SPINS term 2. Since I am only in the dance SPIN in the afternoon I was at school for the whole morning and part of the afternoon. I was really looking forward to it as we were adding onto more of our dance.

We started off by doing our usual warm ups and then got straight into it. We went over what we had first and made sure everyone was doing it at the right time and everything looked good and then we started to add in some moves.

Sophie showed us some moves so we added them in and then added in some moves to the blank part we have. I was really happy with it but it goes really fast so I will have to practice lots so I can get everything right.

We practiced so much that we were sweating lots. We had a sit down and reviewed everything we did and talked about how we could find some more partner dance moves that we could add in to our dance and bring our books next week for a reflection time.

First Day Of Spins T.2

Thursday was the first day of SPINS term 2. This term I am only in one SPIN as only one interested me. It is a Dance Company one, I have done this SPIN before and I really enjoyed it. It is run by the dance teacher Sophie who I know very well.

The start of the day was all pretty normal as I had a maths workshop with Elizabeth and worked on some writing and some maths buddy. Then in the end of the middle block I did a coffee and hot chocolate run for the teachers as Lisa had asked me to.

We walked over to SPINS as a group and were very early when we got there. It was only just lunch time for them so we had all that time to spend. We started to head upstairs to Bravo where the dance room was.

We bumped into Sophie and she said we could go in the dance room during lunch. A couple of students came in to practice a dance and then it was just us in the dance room. We stretched and practiced walkovers, handstands e.t.c.

When lunch was over many of the students started to arrive. There was about 14 of us in the class which was good because it made an even amount so that we could do partner work. We started off by some warm up games.

We then started to get put into places and learning each step. The start of the dance is a canon (when dancers follow the move one by one). So far it looked really cool. We then added in some more moves and they looked kind of like formations.

We then started to swap places while dancing and getting partners. Mine is a girl called Charlotte who does Ballet and Contemprey. She is very flexible and has delicate but fast moves so I need to practice lots to be as fast as her.

I am really happy with what we have so far and can't wait to add some more moves and see what the dance looks like at the end. To finish off the class 2 little kids started watching us sitting down and doing a reflection from outside.

One of the girls asked the kids if they wanted to come inside so the little girl sat on the chair that was keeping the door to outside open. The little boy went running down the stairs. We then performed once more for the little girl.

While we were performing our dance the little boy came running up the stairs and watched the end of it. We then sat down and thought about what the moves make us think about. Sophie thought the start was like mountains with formations.

I cant wait for Thursday next week so we can add some more to the dance and we can have some more practice all together.

Mothers Day Raffle

My mum and I came up with the idea of organizing a mothers day raffle. We thought that we could approach some shops and see if they would donate some prizes. Since it was after school, I decided to try and start organizing it. Mum facebook messaged the new massage place up the road and told them about our idea and if they would give us some vouchers and in return we will feature them in our newsletter.

I rang Daniel and talked to him about our idea and he thought it was really good and said maybe we could ask the new nail place down the road and see if they will give a voucher too. Later on the massage place said sure and that we can pick it up some time tomorrow. I was really excited and couldn't wait to get some more things.

The next day Mea, Daniel and I went to the massage place to pick up the voucher and they ended up giving us 4 $30.00 vouchers. We were very grateful and amazed that they gave us that much. We then went to the west liquor store and asked if they would donate a bottle of wine so the man at the counter went out the back and came out with a bottle of wine for us (Daniel was with us).

We then headed back to school and Daniel dropped us off at the Kiwi Nail And Spa across the road from school so that we could ask them if they would donate a voucher for the raffle. They said they could give 20% off but anyone can get that at the moment and they told us to come back in half an hour.

We then went back to school and Daniel had gotten the raffle ticket booklet. It was pink and had hearts on it which was perfect for this occasion. Mum then said she would take us up to the other new nail place called Jasmine Nails. She came in and they gave us a free manicure voucher that is valued at about $22.00.

On the way back mum, Mea and I went to the Kiwi Nails And Spa and they said they would have to talk to their manager about it. The next morning mum said they text Daniel and it said along the lines of Dear Miss Daniel come sometime and we will give you a manicure and pedicure voucher for your event.

We picked that up and added it to our second prize. I made some posters that we could put up and Daniel put a notice about it on Facebook and the newsletter. We have sold many tickets now and are going to draw the winner on Friday.
