Immersion end of T.3

This time for immersion we are going to look at changes and becoming more responsible. The L.A's said that it will involve some community work such as helping at the learning centre across the road. For the first part of this immersion we talked about our community and asked some questions we had about certain things/ subjects.

We started our first 'activity' on Monday the 12th. The teachers got us all into campfire and told us that we were going to become parents this morning, and I immediately thought that we would be looking after some of the babies at the learning centre and then they said that we were going to look after eggs. We were going to treat them like our babies and do everything we would do with real babies to our egg babies.

All the class went into the kitchen to empty out our eggs so that they don't start smelling gross but there were way too many people in the kitchen so Amy said some of us could start making our baskets for our eggs that we could use to carry them around everywhere with us. Mea, Grace and I went straight down to the office because we knew that there where some baskets in there that we could use for our egg babies. Grace and I grabbed some little yellow baskets and some straw like confetti/ stuffing things that we found in there too. I thought that I would make a nice big pillow to put in there and I could sew it all together.

After lots of people had finished their egg we went in to 'make' our eggs. We put eggs into little holders and used a drawing pin and banged it lightly with a cup to make a mini whole on the top. Then on the bottom we made a larger whole. Then we used a large hand sewing needle to mix all the egg together so that the yolk was mixed. Then I went to a sink and blew through the small whole in the top and very slowly the slightly mixed egg whites started to come out like slime. It took a long time to get all the yolks out and then suddenly the egg yolk came out very fast and in no time my egg was all empty. I then packet away the things I used and put my egg in its basket.

Then Grace ( aka Auntie Grace) gave her (I decided she was a girl) a bath with her daughter. My daughter had a couple of scratches on it so I knew that she was mine and Grace's was very dark and had a lot of freckles on it. Holly ended up being its god mother because she was with me when I got her. She then came with me for the day and I attached a bit of ribbon to the basket and hanged it around my neck but holding onto it so it doesn't flip and fall out.

The L.A's explained that if something does happen to our babies then we will have to go to court and there will be jury and a judge. A few people broke their eggs on the first day. Some people were on their second because when they were emptying them the egg cracked and others just dropped them.

I was searching for a name on google and came across Evie/ Evelyne and I really liked the name so I ended up naming my baby Evelyne and Evie for short. Grace named her baby Chloe and Mea named hers Scarlett which is a little weird because she has a friend at dance called Scarlett. Chanel named hers Mele and Cassady named hers Meleficent.

Jorja was going to name hers eggetha but Paige ended up naming hers that and Jorja called hers Emma. Poppy named hers ShellBob because she put him in a pineapple ornament of Amy's and sang the SpongeBob chorus but with Shellbob and pineapple under a roof.

Chanel already had a crack or two in her egg baby and when we were doing our depth essays in the boardroom she dropped Mele AGAIN and Mele got another crack of his or her head. When the Depth Essay workshop was over and Response Reading started Chanel left the workshop and forgot Mele. The other group in Response took Mele and gave him or her back to Chanel and it was all crushed; a lot worse than before.

After school Evie had a long sleep in her nursery while I was at after school care and when we went over to the park across the road. I was lucky because when I got back she was safe and sound and also still sound asleep.

I took Evie home that night and made her a nice little house that was made out of a my food bag chill box because it was big and silver/ sparkly. She now has a nice bed, blanket, flat screen t.v and much, much more.

At around 7:30 Evie was fast asleep in her bed so I went to the toilet as fast as I could because I wanted to be a good mum and when I was walking down the hallway back down to my room my mum was running out of my room with her hands cupped and up to her chest like she was holding something precious; that she didn't want to break.

I yelled "MUM" at her and she ran out of the hallway and towards the lounge room. I ran after her trying to safetly get my baby Evie from her without breaking her. My mum told me that I was a bad mum and I expained that she was sleeping in her bed and I needed to go to the toilet and she finally gave my baby Evelyne back to me with her eye mask half off.

The reason I probably freaked out the most was because I was told to act like she was my baby and I did not want my baby to be egg napped by my own mother. In that couple of seconds knowing her she could of cracked her into a thousand pieces but I was lucky that she didn't as she knew I would be angry and I didn't want to fail my task which is to keep it safe and alive.

Mum said to me later afterwards that this is what she feels like with me growing up; she doesn't want me to grow up or get hurt at all. I know that she definitely cares about me a lot more than I care about my little Egg baby Evie so I can now kind of relate to her I guess.

The next morning (Tuesday 13th September) I took Evie to school unharmed. Some people had left their babies at school (bad moms) if they wanted to so they could make a house for them at home. That night everyone had to take their babies home and they couldn't be left in the nursery.

In most of the first block we were all in the court for some people who had filled out an accident form for their babies. Mea's baby Scarlett had got its bum taken off because of the plaster nappy. Some people dropped theirs, murdered them etc. Amy told everyone who didn't have their baby with them at school that they had to fill out a incident form as well because that is just neglect.

In the middle block some time I was signing into my computer on the high tables and somehow Evie jumped out of her lovely basket and went skydiving off the table without a parachute but luckily the grass on the surface was a like a soft trampoline.I felt very lucky that Evie didn't get crushed because she is my baby and I want to look after her and I also don't want to have to go to court with everyone just looking at me.

She had a safe rest of the day and had a fun time having some of her friends over such as Poppy's ShellBob, Cassady's Meleficent and Natalia's Sam jr. After school mum made us go over to the kindi to get Quinn and all the little kids wanted to see my baby and then some of the boys said they would crash it which did not sound good.

Luckily no one got their hands on my baby apart from Alexia because I knew once I told her not to break it she wouldn't. Mum came and signed Quinn out and we went to mum and I's hand appointment in Westgate.

Evie saw me got my arm angles measured and my grip strength tested. I then got my hand put in wax to contain heat in my wrist and then we waited for mums appointment to finish up so that we could go home.

After the hand place we went to pack n save because mum needed to buy more fish to go with dinner. I didn't really want to bring Evie into the supermarket because it is a very dangerous place and I didn't want to look silly carrying a egg around in a basket because that would just seem weird.

I asked mum if I should leave her in the car but she said that couldn't promise not to tell some people so I ended up just taking her in. When we got in there mum said we didn't need a trolly so I had to carry her around in the basket. Not many people noticed that I saw but she was pretty cuddled up in her fluffy blanket.

By the time we were just about half way through the supermarket we had too many things to carry so mum got me to go and get a trolly. There were no small ones so I got a big one and but Evie into the seat were the babys go and put the seatbelt safetly around her basket so she wouldn't go flying out of the trolly.

She had a safe ride as I pushed the trolly really carefully. My brothers were trying to touch her but I told them to go away and don't touch my baby. We got to the car okay and I put the basket on my lap and held onto her over the bumps and sharp turns.

At home Evie and I did our makeup. I did Lachlan as a vampire and then did mine nicely apart from a couple of random eyeliner lines on my eyelids, I felt like Evie was missing out so I used a lipliner to make a outline of her lips and then filled them in with lipstick. I took a photo, rubbed it off and then put her to bed in her house while I had dinner.

After dinner she watched some Youtube with me and then she went back to sleep again. She slept well all night as she loves her sleep and so far has kept up her sleeping pattern. In the morning she woke up and went back to sleep while I got ready.

We didn't have any immersion this morning because we had to fill in our IEM sheets and our learner disposition sheet and write down some goals. The rest of the day she watched barbie movies and shows with Natalia's son Sam jr.

Evie slept a lot during the day and just continued watching barbie movies. After school I went to Mea and Nelle's house so Evie got to play with Rosella and Scarlett while we had some afternoon tea and hanged out in Mea's room.

At about 4:40 we packed up and I grabbed Evie and my bag and hopped into the car. We went to the fruit and vegie shop on the way and I took her in to look at the fresh produce and also because I would be a bad mum if I left her in the car by herself as she is only a little baby!

I then realised that Mea and Nelle had left Scarlett and Rosella at home BY THEMSELVES so I told them that they were very bad mothers because you are meant to take them with you everywhere. They didn't really seem to care because they knew that nothing could happen to them because they are just eggs.

When we got home She went into her bed and watched even more barbie on her large flat screen t.v. She was nicely relaxing while I went and had some dinner and mum and nana went out to the movies. We watched some Youtube videos and read some books. We couldn't get to sleep and were up until about 10:00.

SPINS Performance

On Tuesday (my birthday) we had a performance rehearsal at the secondary school. Grace, Mea and I all went there together after we did the book battle challenge for intermediate schools around the area.

We were the opening act to we had to go first. This was more of a lighting and sound rehearsal so that they could work out how the lights were and to get our music and have it at the right volume. We had simple lights and music but it wasn't cut properly.

Sophie our dance teacher wasn't there for this rehearsal as she couldn't make it and she had the music that was cut to our dance. We just had to use the version that was online and had to pause at some points to wait for it to catch up.

After we did our dance once and practiced coming on from the wings, Leigh who was organising everything said that us three can go now because we had already done our part. We wanted to watch the others but decided to go now.

On the Wednesday we had to be at the Secondary school at 3:00 so we left school a little earlier. We went and got changed into our costumes and went into the auditorium were everything was being set up.

We did our part and then we watched most of the others performances.  We then put $5.00 each towards pizza, chips and drinks. Once the Stage Challenge group had finished performing we got to eat our dinner.

We then just waited for the last groups of people perform their parts. We all did our makeup and people started to arrive as 6:30 was almost here. We had a briefing upstairs because the schedule had changed for some people.

We then went downstairs to the green room which was backstage. We then walked around the stage to the other side and into our starting positions. Once we had performed we walked back around and upstairs.

The other acts did their parts as we waiting a couple of hours until it was the finale. Mea went to half of her ballet class and grace and I were just upstairs not doing much. Near the end of the show we started to practice some moves.

We did some handstands and walkovers and then decided that we would practice the finale in the dance room with the music because a group of people decided that they wanted to join in so we taught them and practiced.

We then did the finale dance on the stage and after we did it and bowed most people went back on stage and kept dancing and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. We then grabbed all of our things and went home to bed.

SPINS Reflection

SPINS Reflection (class):

I think that this class really helped me with my flexibility, strength and confidence to perform. I really enjoyed working on a new dance and working with new people. I also enjoyed doing another performance in front of people and I feel like it really boosted my confidence.

Something that didn't go to plan in this class is that I found out I could do anything instead of being held back by my sore foot so that helped me to be able to do some things that I couldn't before.

Something I would change for next time is to work a lot more on my handstands and cartwheels so that I can do many things such as clip cartwheels, holding split hand stands and my back walkover.

I think that I was quite good at taking corrections and I tried my hardest to fix my mistakes and make my technique much better than it was before, I liked how everyone gave me things to work on and now I am a lot better.

I feel like I added in some things to this dance and I worked as a team with others especially when we did partner moves and trying to make them as best as possible.

SPINS Reflection (performance):

I think that our characters were good as we had facials that expressed our feelings when dancing and I feel like we really defined our movements to make more effect while performing. I think that I personally did well with my technique and doing the things that I practiced.

I think that the finale didn't really go as planned, starting off that some others wanted to do it too so we had to teach it to them, then we waited for the music to start but it didn't so we had to go on stage first and just stand there covering it up and then some people went back on after everyone who had bowed but all together I think it looked really good and the audience enjoyed it.

Something I would change for next time would be to have more than two rehearsals so we can get used to the area we are dancing in and the chance to watch everyone else's performances because we didn't really get to.

SPINS W.4

This week we just needed to practice our dance because a fact of dance is you remember a dance after doing it at least 25 times so our goal was to try and practice as many times as possible to remember our dance.

We started off by dong cartwheels from each corner of the room. We then did some handstand for a while but I got annoyed because I kept going into a bridge as always so I tried really hard not to.

When we did cartwheels I practiced my 'Bad Side' because I want to confidently be able to do both ways. I also practiced my clip cartwheels (when you clip your legs in the middle of the cartwheel, hold it and finish going over).

When we did handstands I also worked olin my other leg and tried to keep my arms closer together (shoulder width apart). I also worked on holing my handstand for longer instead of coming straight down.

We were all very tired by the time we finished as we had been trying our hardest like we will when we do the show. We just need to practice through the week so we are ready for our performance on Wednesday 29th of June.

Runway Challenge

Sunday the was the day of the runway challenge. We had our roster all organized and I was on Cafe (Hot chocolates and coffee) the whole time because I have had lots of experience in that section of selling. There was also a bakes sale and sausage sizzle.

The morning started off by setting up the stall. We had a few tables all set up next to each other and Daniel had already set up the machine. There were lots of power cords every were so that we could plug in the 2 machines and the money till.

Not soon after everything was set up and ready, people started to arrive and pick up there bags from in the gym. Sadly we had a rival who was right next to the door and was probably going to steal all our customers.

We didn't get very many customers at the start because it was really hot. It sounded like the bake sale was going well and the sausages were a bit quiet. More people started to come and noticed were we were and we got more customers.

We had some crazy times were there were so many orders as groups of people came to order. Some people even came back to say how nice their drink was which made us very happy. The bake sale moved from being in the cafe as no one could see them there.

They moved in the sun near the sausage sizzle and had the big school gazebo up. They had many customers as they were visible and they had very cheap prices. Mums cupcakes that she made sold like wildfire as they looked and tasted amazing.

We got some more customers and then we got told to wrap up everything. We had to bring everything into the cafeteria and put everything into its place. We were happy because we had learnt lots of money from just looking into the till.

We knew we wouldn't get all the money in the till as we had to pay back the float and half the money to the school for all the cups, hot chocolate and e.t.c. Our rival coffee shop had to pay $30.00 for being there at the event and the Runway challenge group gave it to us.

They also said that they would pay us $500 for letting them use our school for the whole event and also said that they would pay for all the ingredients we used such as the sausages, hot chocolate cups e.t.c.

we were really happy with the days work but were happy to finish. I can't wait until another big fundraiser like that one so it can get us closer to the Gold Coast.

Noel Leeming Sausage Sizzle

Daniel got the leadership team in the boardroom so we could have a meeting about something. he started to explain about how Noel Leeming had a sausage sizzle fundraiser and wanted us to run it for them. They would provide everything and we would get all the profit.

They were going to be sold for $1.00 each, all we needed to bring was tongs and aprons. We made a document to add a time table on so that we could do shifts. They were from 10-12, 12-2 and 2-4. Some people couldn't do it so they continued with their work.

I was free all day and didn't mind how long I had to do it so they put me on for 10-2 which was long hours but I was really excited and they needed me to. Grace was going to stay at Mea and Nelle's house on Friday as it was on the Saturday.

Mea asked Daniel if I could stay too because I was going in the morning with him and he said yes. On Saturday morning (after close to no sleep) we went down to Westgate at 9:30 so that we could set up everything.

We got some Starbucks as it was just across the road and then we went across to Noel Leeming. We got a table so we could set up the money, sausages, sauce e.t.c. We then started putting up posters and cooking the onions and sausages.

We then just had to wait for some customers to come. We only had a couple of people coming as most of them had only just had their breakfast. Mum soon arrived with the rest of the family. I took my brothers to look at the animals in Animates and they got a sausage.

Dad and the boys then went home to get mums sunglasses and mum went and brought some gloves and hand sanitiser for us to use so everything was nice and clean, she also brought a plastic container that we could put the onions in and they could keep warm.

We got a few more customers and the lady that helped us at Noel Leeming was making cupcakes for everyone so we had lots of those too. Mum then asked for some cardboard and a vivid so we could have someone by the road waving the sign every were.

Mum wrote on the sign and got Mea by the road yelling out "$1 sausages at Noel Leeming". After Mea was out there we got a whole lot more customers than we did before and people coming to look at the sales in the store.

Mea and I also started going down the bottom end of the shops handing out flyers and vouchers and we got lots of people coming up to were we were. T.K arrived and Mea had to leave for dance as she had a private lesson.

The staff at Noel Leeming then came out and gave us 7 MKR cook books to hand out. We decided to give them away to people who brought 4 or more sausages. They were gone very fast as many families came and got some.

When we were finished Poppy and Grace came and took over for the 2-4 block. We were very happy with the amount of sausages we sold and couldn't wait to do another fundraiser.

Dear ___________,

RE: Gold Coast Application

I am writing to apply for the Gold Coast trip 2016

I consider myself as a good leader and think this trip will help me lots with the following things:

  • Experiences
  • Money/ budgeting
  • Travel experience
  • Leadership
  • Student Bonding
  • Fundraising
  • Expanding my learning

I think this trip is a good opportunity for me to get some experience before I go to high school. I also think that dealing with money will help me understand lots more and will expand with what I have learnt from running the cafe over the past year or so. I haven't travelled that much before so I think that this will help me understand more about the whole experience and how to act in a new and exciting environment. This seems a lot like a leadership camp which would be good for my leadership goals of becoming better at leading new things and doing something good for communities.

I think that going overseas for a while will be a good time to bond with other students and get to know them better and in a different place and environment than at school. This trip will help me learn how to fundraise and work with customers, it will also help me organise things that I want to happen and this can also help my with money and budgeting also. This trip will also help me expand my learning by helping people I don't know and doing something for them.

Why I should go/ my qualities:

I love exploring new places and are open to new ideas/ change, I also like to try new things especially when I have others doing it with me. I would really like to meet some other students/people that grew up in a different environment and place than I did. I like to share my experiences with other people and doing team building games as I find new experiences exciting and they really inspire me to find out more about them and how things work. I have been to Sydney once before and that was a really great experience for me as I learn’t lots and  we went to theme parks and learnt lots about animals such as Koalas and Kangaroos.

My Reference:

I have worked with Kayla in 2015 and 2016 in both Dance classes and for the HPSS 2015 stage challenge. I have found that Kayla is always keen to learn and take on new challenge and works well when collaborating with a team. Kayla always shows up on time and is well organised and ready to learn. I would not hesitate to recommend Kayla for the Gold Coast trip.

Kind regards,
                     Sophie

I have known Kayla now for two years through my work at Hobsonville Point Primary School. Kayla is extremely conscientious in all that she does, and can always be relied on to do the right thing in any situation. This is continually role-modelled for students around her, and she is quick to help others to follow her example. Kayla is also a very reliable and helpful student – she will always step up in various situations and offer help in any form it is needed, and will finish any task that is assigned to her. She is developing great self-confidence in herself and her abilities, and easily steps out of her comfort zone when required. Alongside this, she is growing her leadership skills and her ability to collaborate with others. Sheis a confident and articulate student who is able to fully contribute her own ideas and views in any discussion. Kayla is developing into a delightful young adult – she has a great sense of fun and enjoys life.

Thank you for considering my application, I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Spins W.2

Today we had our second day of SPINS term 2. Since I am only in the dance SPIN in the afternoon I was at school for the whole morning and part of the afternoon. I was really looking forward to it as we were adding onto more of our dance.

We started off by doing our usual warm ups and then got straight into it. We went over what we had first and made sure everyone was doing it at the right time and everything looked good and then we started to add in some moves.

Sophie showed us some moves so we added them in and then added in some moves to the blank part we have. I was really happy with it but it goes really fast so I will have to practice lots so I can get everything right.

We practiced so much that we were sweating lots. We had a sit down and reviewed everything we did and talked about how we could find some more partner dance moves that we could add in to our dance and bring our books next week for a reflection time.

First Day Of Spins T.2

Thursday was the first day of SPINS term 2. This term I am only in one SPIN as only one interested me. It is a Dance Company one, I have done this SPIN before and I really enjoyed it. It is run by the dance teacher Sophie who I know very well.

The start of the day was all pretty normal as I had a maths workshop with Elizabeth and worked on some writing and some maths buddy. Then in the end of the middle block I did a coffee and hot chocolate run for the teachers as Lisa had asked me to.

We walked over to SPINS as a group and were very early when we got there. It was only just lunch time for them so we had all that time to spend. We started to head upstairs to Bravo where the dance room was.

We bumped into Sophie and she said we could go in the dance room during lunch. A couple of students came in to practice a dance and then it was just us in the dance room. We stretched and practiced walkovers, handstands e.t.c.

When lunch was over many of the students started to arrive. There was about 14 of us in the class which was good because it made an even amount so that we could do partner work. We started off by some warm up games.

We then started to get put into places and learning each step. The start of the dance is a canon (when dancers follow the move one by one). So far it looked really cool. We then added in some more moves and they looked kind of like formations.

We then started to swap places while dancing and getting partners. Mine is a girl called Charlotte who does Ballet and Contemprey. She is very flexible and has delicate but fast moves so I need to practice lots to be as fast as her.

I am really happy with what we have so far and can't wait to add some more moves and see what the dance looks like at the end. To finish off the class 2 little kids started watching us sitting down and doing a reflection from outside.

One of the girls asked the kids if they wanted to come inside so the little girl sat on the chair that was keeping the door to outside open. The little boy went running down the stairs. We then performed once more for the little girl.

While we were performing our dance the little boy came running up the stairs and watched the end of it. We then sat down and thought about what the moves make us think about. Sophie thought the start was like mountains with formations.

I cant wait for Thursday next week so we can add some more to the dance and we can have some more practice all together.

Mothers Day Raffle

My mum and I came up with the idea of organizing a mothers day raffle. We thought that we could approach some shops and see if they would donate some prizes. Since it was after school, I decided to try and start organizing it. Mum facebook messaged the new massage place up the road and told them about our idea and if they would give us some vouchers and in return we will feature them in our newsletter.

I rang Daniel and talked to him about our idea and he thought it was really good and said maybe we could ask the new nail place down the road and see if they will give a voucher too. Later on the massage place said sure and that we can pick it up some time tomorrow. I was really excited and couldn't wait to get some more things.

The next day Mea, Daniel and I went to the massage place to pick up the voucher and they ended up giving us 4 $30.00 vouchers. We were very grateful and amazed that they gave us that much. We then went to the west liquor store and asked if they would donate a bottle of wine so the man at the counter went out the back and came out with a bottle of wine for us (Daniel was with us).

We then headed back to school and Daniel dropped us off at the Kiwi Nail And Spa across the road from school so that we could ask them if they would donate a voucher for the raffle. They said they could give 20% off but anyone can get that at the moment and they told us to come back in half an hour.

We then went back to school and Daniel had gotten the raffle ticket booklet. It was pink and had hearts on it which was perfect for this occasion. Mum then said she would take us up to the other new nail place called Jasmine Nails. She came in and they gave us a free manicure voucher that is valued at about $22.00.

On the way back mum, Mea and I went to the Kiwi Nails And Spa and they said they would have to talk to their manager about it. The next morning mum said they text Daniel and it said along the lines of Dear Miss Daniel come sometime and we will give you a manicure and pedicure voucher for your event.

We picked that up and added it to our second prize. I made some posters that we could put up and Daniel put a notice about it on Facebook and the newsletter. We have sold many tickets now and are going to draw the winner on Friday.

Sewing course

For the first week of the holiday I decided to go to a sewing course that was run by Grace's Grandma Sydney. It was run from Monday-Friday 9-12 for $30. Mea stayed the night before it started as mum was taking us in the morning as it said on the carpooling system sheet.

On the first day we set up our sewing machines (Grace, Mea and I had our own and the rest were the schools) and started to practice some straight lines on a piece of paper. We then had a sewing test where you had to follow the road and then follow the curving lines.

We then got a piece of paper that had instructions on how to make a strawberry. We had to cut out some paper templates to use when we cut out the fabric. We then got some red material with white polka dots and cut it out and then used some felt to cut out the top of the strawberry.

We then sewed around the red material, leaving a small gap at the top which we filled with stuffing.
After the stuffing was firmly put in we started to hand sew the top up. We then easily sewed on the top of the strawberry.

Once we finished our strawberry, we started making some hearts just like how we made our strawberry's but we put some ribbon on it and sewed on a button to finish it off.

The next day we chose a material that we wanted to make a small bag out of. We then started to design what we wanted our bag to look like. I wanted to make mine for my iPad so I started to make it. I chose 2 different color materials, one had ballet shoes on it and the other was a plain pink color.

Mine was a lot more complicated than others because I had pockets that I wanted to pad so that it was more protective for my iPad. I cut the padding to the right length and put it in the fabric pockets. I then sewed everything together.

I also added in a mini flap so that I could add some velcro on it and it would keep my iPad in it. I sewed everything and then cleaned up everything like the threads and my area. The next day we started to make some bigger bags.

I decided I wanted to make my own design on my bag so I cut it to the right length and then chose a stencil. I chose a floral kind of design to put on my bag and used the pink paint mixed with the silver sparkly one and it looked really cool.

While we waited for the paint to dry we played on the playground. When it was dry we started sewing the outsides of the bag. We then sewed the seams by making the the sewing machine wear the bag. We then ironed our bags and started to square them up.

It took a little while but it looked great afterwards. Sydney then cut the straps to the right length for everyone and then we were able to start sewing them on. We only had to do a single shoulder strap since there wouldn't be enough if everyone did a double strap.

We then were able to make another heart, bag or strawberry. Sydney thought maybe we could make something for our mums as mothers day was coming up. I made another little bag, a heart and a little wallet/bag for Quinn as he was having surgery.

Mea made him a really cool cape for Quinn with some blue material and the string that is usually attached to a bucket hat.

I was very proud with everything I made and I hope Sydney will run it again as I learnt lots and had heaps of fun with my friends. I really want to make some more things but maybe this time I might make some kind of clothes.

Etime

This term I had been chosen to participate in the online course
Etime. Each term there is a new topic and this term it was all about robots.
Each week there is a new set of tasks. It starts off with a video
explaining the weeks topic of robots (medical industrial e.t.c)
Then you have to add to the weekly discussion wall,
Etime posts a question or a statement and you comment about it, if
they like you're comment they will feature it in the next weeks
video, I have been mentioned lots of times.

The second task is a Prezi. You go through the Prezi and
you can watch the videos if you want to. You then do the quiz that
is on the class page, you can keep the Prezi open to help you
figure out the answer. The third task usually is a
creative task were you have to draw, make or video
something (it is all related to robots).

You then hand in the task that was set and then
you are done. After you have done the task you can clicked
done in the top right left corner and it will mark
it off on your task board.

Athletics Day

For athletics I couldn't do much because of my sore foot so I got assigned to doing the photography. We started off the day by having a debrief in the gym. We then lined up in our last name alphabetical order, I was happy with this because it meant I would be near the front. We got on the buses (not the bendy ones) and made our way to the Trust Stadium were our athletics day was being held.

When we got there we unloaded from the bus and made our way to the stands. We put our bags down and waited for our next instructions. We then got split into year groups and got sent to our first activity. My year started off at shot put. I have never really liked shot put but I gave it a go anyway and came quite high in my year level.

The year 8s then moved onto high jump so I went and helped Mea do some photography. I got some cool shots of some people doing high jump and running races. We then went and had a snack in the stands before the next event. I continued doing photography as the year 8s did some long jump.

It was then time for discus and I was really nervous and excited at the same time. I have already done lots of discus as I used to Athletics and I was quite good at it but it has been a long time since that and I didn't know how well I was going to do. I had my first go and got about 9 meters something. Lots of people bet my score, Leroy got 17 meters! I knew I needed to get further so in my second go I got 10 or 11 meters which I was quite happy with. The next one I got was about 15 meters and I came second over all and first out of the girls which I was really happy with and so was mum.

I then took some more photos but it began to rain so I had to sit the stands so that the camera didn't get wet. Mea and I were sitting in our seats when we heard someone screaming, I looked down the row in front of me and along a bit to the left Ethan was screaming as his foot was stuck in the chair, Mea was yelling for Karma and I rushed over as Lisa and Nicole came over. He had jammed his foot and it wasn't coming out. He cried in pain and finally he was able to get it out. His foot was indented and started bruising strait away.

Mum came running as fast as she could as she heard Mea and could see people crowding around. His foot was still hurting and mum told me to run and get an ice pack and it was in a green bag. I ran/ hopped to the gazebo and searched for the green bag with the snap ice packs in them. I couldn't find it and I was frantically searching. We then spotted it on one of the chairs in the stands so we went and got the ice pack. After Ethan got the ice pack he calmed down a lot and his foot was bruising lots.

There was then the longer running races and they were a success. We had a couple of people slipping over but there wasn't anything major. I can't wait until next athletics day and I hope I can actually do everything next time.

High school SPINS

This term I have been chosen to do three spins at the Secondary School

Drama
At drama I have been learning about the main parts in drama such as place,
time, character e.t.c. We have learned many warm up games such as Bang,
numbers and whoosh. Recently we had the task of making a certain
subject of drama (comedy, action e.t.c) on how HPSS was made.

My group is comedy and it involves a Pink Ninja Warrior,
a broccoli, Narrator, News reporter and a guy named Morri
and his butler. Next week we have some more time
to work on it and then we have to perform in front of
the other groups live, by video or presentation.

Dance Choreography
For dance choreography our main focus for the term is
to become confident learning how to choreograph a dance and
perform it in front of others. We learnt some warm ups like Chain and Bump.

We then had do write down many choreographic devices such as
Cannon, Unison and Motif. We then made up a dance in our
group and added to it to make it the theme of electricity or
Electric current. We added slow motion moves and unison (same time)
to add effect and sharp moves

Spanish
For spanish we started off by learning some basic classroom words
such as 'can I get some water please'. We then started
to learn the numbers of the alphabet by watching videos
and then trying to join along. We then started moving into
spelling our own names in Spanish.
Once we had mastered that we learn't how to ask each other
our names and how to spell them.

We were then pretty confident with our alphabet and started
to move into numbers. We were split into different groups depending on
what we already knew, then we started practicing it and
playing games to help us get faster at them

Horse Trek

Today me and 5 other students went on the Muriwai horse trek that was organised by me and Nelle. I love horses as you probably know and that sparked the idea for me to organise this trek. I had already done the trek and had an idea of what it was like and it was really good the last time I did it.

We approached Daniel and our Learning Advisors about it and then started to get it up and running. We wrote our proposal and got that approved. We then started working on the costs and the students attending. For the 1 hour trek it was $60 so we decided we would do that one as we had already fun raised $140 from previous projects, so we could pay $20 of each students cost and they would have to pay $40.

The students who showed interest, got their names pulled out of a hat and 4 were chosen to participate. The newsletter was sent out and no parents were able to do it. Sarah then said she would do it and possibly mum too. On the day Sarah was unable to come and there was not very many people in the office so mum couldn't take us. I got a little frustrated and upset and then moved on by trying to find someone else. No one else could do it so mum talked to Lisa and she said it was fine if she took us. I was really excited so we all got ready to go.

We had a fun time on the way there as we listened to loud music and had some fun. When we got there we had some lunch and got fitted to the horses and started off on our trek. Since there was some beginners the manager and her helper walked the trek next to our horses.

We rode over the beach and through the forrest. We passed the area were Taylor Swift filmed her new video 'Out of the Woods' and through the country side. It was a great experience for all of us and we all really enjoyed it.

Reflection:
My highlight of the trek was knowing that me and Nelle had organised all of this and having the lady tell me I was a really good rider and that I was very good when talking on the phone. I am hoping for next time I do the trek it will be for Advanced riders so that we can canter instead of walking and trotting.

My challenge for the horse trek was getting the parent help because of the problems we had but we worked around them and had a great time!

My change for next time would be to fundraise more money so that no one has to pay and to send out the permission slip out earlier so we can get some more parent helps and we don't have to chase everyone up the day before.

Sausage Sizzle

Planning.

I decided that this year I would like to run a disco. I brainstormed fundraising ideas and decided that a sausage sizzle would earn lots of money to go towards it. I talked to Daniel and he asked me what all the profit money (about $300 - $500) will go towards and I thought maybe a class trip like rock climbing but then Daniel said we could use it for the year 8 leavers dinner.

Daniel said he already had sausages, sauce and bread so that was all set-up and ready. We then confirmed the date and started to make posters as you can see below. We also decided that another way of fundraising would be to sell Hot chocolates and coffee because it would earn us more money and give us experience so we decided to do it weekdays and made a poster for that too.

Organising.

I got onto everything as soon as I could. I printed off class lists and put notices over the loudspeaker about it and was hoping that lots of people would order one. On Monday morning Mea took orders and we got lots of orders but lots of people forgot about it over the weekend, Grace and I worked in the cafe as I am the only one who knows how to do the coffee and hot chocolate properly.

Action.

It finally came to the sausage sizzle day. We made sure the sausages and bread were defrosting and did some work in the common. When it was the middle block we organised the bread and paper towels. We then put the sausages in the oven and waited for them to be cooked. Then the sausages got delivered to learning common 1&2. Then I made Hot chocolates for the kids that ordered them in the morning. We ended up earning about $194 which was a great outcome.

My reflection.

My highlight of the sausage sizzle would be knowing that the money we raised is going towards a disco for everyone to enjoy and a time for everyone to have fun.

My challenge for the sausage sizzle would have to be making hot chocolates while running everything else at the same time and having to run around to get everything done

A change for next time would be to cook the sausages earlier so we didn’t have to rush as much as we did because they will be ready before everyone comes to get their one.
